 MOUNT LONGONOT

Overview

 

Rising from the shores of Lake Naivasha up to at an elevation of 2,776m (9108ft), Mt Longonot is the highest volcano in the Great Rift Valley. One of the youngest volcanoes in the world, Mt. Longonot is also among the most accessible mountain in the world. Mt Longonot is known for its exceptional scenic beauty, amazing V-shaped valleys and vast crater, offering an unforgettable sight.

 

The magnificent Mt Longonot National Park on its slopes is home to unique flora and fauna, attracting nature lovers and trekkers from all over the world.

 

Mt Longonot is quite popular with trekkers, as it offers easy ascent through spectacular slopes up to the crater. The trek up to the rim of the crater takes between 4-5 hours, and although very narrow, it is possible to walk around the entire rim. Mt Longonot is also a migratory route for animals moving from Hell's Gate to Masai Mara National Park. Its lush slopes attract many grazing animals including Zebras, Buffalos, Gazelles, Leopards, Colobus Monkeys and Baboons, offering an excellent opportunity to visitors to see them in their own natural habitat. Once you are on the top, just enjoy the breathtaking views of the surroundings, which never fail to mesmerize its visitors.
